Saligao: The frequent power cuts specially during night has affected the people living in Saligao Assembly constituency. Local MLA and RDA Minister Jayesh Salgaoncar had to personally intervene last night and be on the street to ensure that the current is restored.

While Salgaoncar was seen personally monitoring the work of resuming electricity connection in his constituency during wee hours of Wednesday, the people have been witnessing sleepless night due to frequent power failures.

There was no current since 6 p.m. and it was restored at 1 a.m., only when Salgaoncar personally visited the spot and ensured that Electricity department’s high ranking officials too join him.

The constituency has been facing problem despite dedicated electricity cable laid from Porvorim to Saligao, which was supposed to ease the issues faced by this constituency.

Salgaoncar confirmed that the aerial bunch cable is pulled but is not yet charged.

The people are banking on their local MLA to make sure that there is no frequent electricity outage.

“We live at Sonarbhat, Near Silver Spoon, Verem, Bardez and have a serious power problem. For last five-six days, the electricity department put out light at 1 am or 2 am in the morning making it very difficult to sleep,” a local said.

“While one day it is feeder problem, or the next day it is transformer,” he said.
