Panaji: Goa government will follow all the protocols to perform final rites on the body of a man who died due to COVID-19 infection on Monday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday.
85-year-old man had died due to COVID-19 infection at ESI hospital in Margao on Monday. This is the first COVID-19 related death reported in the coastal state.
“We will follow all the protocols as prescribed to perform final rites on the body. The body will not be handed over to his family members,” Sawant said.
State Health department will conduct final rites on his body, he added.
The chief minister said that the deceased was living at Morlem village in Sattari taluka, which has been declared as a containment zone.
He said the situation inside the containment zone of Morlem is improving, while the patient who died as aged and suffering from asthma, diabetic and was having chronic pulmonary disease and bed ridden for four years.
