Sanquelim: In a close fought contest Aditya Desai and Prasad Patil emerged as winners for the first edition of JCI Smashers, All Goa Men’s Double (Non-Ranking) Badminton Tournament organised by JCI Sanquelim.
The duo defeated Abhishekh Swami and Mrunal Bhatkande in a match on the final day of three-day-long tournament on Sunday, held at Multipurpose Stadium, Sanquelim.
Avdhut Saptoji and Mohammad Nadaf duo and Siraj Wadkar and Meghal Kauthankar were the semi finalists for the event which saw more than 40 teams participating in it.
Sports Minister Govind Gaude had inaugurated this JCI Sanquelim’s event on Thursday, which will be an annual tournament on the sports calendar of the town.
During the inaugural event, Gaude played an exhibition match with state level player Karan Dhavaskar.
Past President of JCI Sanquelim JC Rita D’Sa, Sachin Karpe were present as the guests for the inaugural event. JCI Sanquelim President Chetan Salelkar hosted the event.
JC Rita D’Sa, who is also motivational speaker, urged the Sports Minister to encourage all kind of sports in the state. She also appealed all the youth to come forward and follow their passion.
For the closing ceremony, Zone President JCI India Zone XI Senator Adv Eeshan Usapkar was the chief guest while Past Presidents of JCI Sanquelim JC Suraj Naik, JC Rahul Parab, JC Rohan Desai, host President JC Chetan Salelkar and Project Director JC Tejas Kini were present on the dais.
