Margao: It was always a triangular fight for South Goa Parliamentary seat ticket in South Goa since beginning with Francisco Sardinha, Capt. Viriato Fernandes and Girish Chodankar in the race. But now the triangle has changed to quadrangular with GPCC chief Amit Patkar’s name emerging as probable.

INDIA. Bloc has already announced that both the parliamentary seats would be be contested by Congress candidates.
Sardinha, Capt. Viriato and Girish were three probables in the list. The delay in announcing the name has now added name of Amit Patkar. That could be shocking for Capt. Viriato who has always been considered as Amit’s candidate.
Amit himself throwing his hat in the ring may surprise Capt Viriato.
Capt. Viriato told GNH that Amit has always been a neutral leader and does not side with anyone.
Girish on the other hand has told GNH’s Hub Express with Rupesh Samant that he would love to have minority candidate contesting from South Goa. And in case, there is decision not to field a minority candidate, then his name should be considered.
This means that if Sardinha and Viriato’s names are omitted, then the straight fight for the ticket would be between Patkar and Girish. Both the leaders are known to be rivals within the party.
