INSPECTION CONDUCTED FOR ACCESSIBLE POLLING BOOTHS

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer as per the guidelines of ECI conducted Inspection regarding Accessible polling booth for PWDs in South Goa today.

The Commission is committed for building an equal access framework for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) supported by the fundamentals of responsiveness, respect and dignity to enhance elector confidence among them and support initiatives for improved service offerings and enhancing their electoral participation.

The aim of the inspection was to verify the availability of the facilities for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) like permanent Ramp, Accessibility toilet, Tactiles, transport, proper lighting ,water and availability of the Assured Minimum Facilities to be provided at the booth.

The Inspection team during their inspection visited various booths in South Goa among them are Government Primary School Khandepar, Ravindra Bhavan Margao and MES College Zuari Nagar Vasco etc. The team acquainted themselves with various issues and suggested to the concerned about various changes to facilitate the facility made for PwDs.

The inspection team comprised of State PwD Icon and Secretary of the Office of State Commissioner for Person with Disabilities Shri Taha Haaziq, Shri Sudesh Gaude, State Nodal Officer for Accessible Election, Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Shri Vishant Nagvekar and Patric Desouza, both are Person with Disabilities. Smt Rashmi Rawal, Assistant Director of Social Welfare , Annet Sequeira E. Gomes, District Welfare Officer who are district Nodal Officer on Accessible Election and PwD. Shri. Saglani President of Gujarati Samaj Special School Margao, NGO representative and officials from Public Works Department alongwith booth Level Officer participated in the inspection.
