Valpoi: Shel Melauli villagers on Thursday held a mega rally in Valpoi Town against the IIT project, shouting slogans against the Government. Around five hundred villagers were present for rally and have handed over a  memorandum to the Deputy Collector of Valpoi, Rajesh Azgaonkar. The villagers have demanded to stop the ongoing illegal demarcation for the illegal proposal to build IIT Goa of our lands at Meluali village in Sattari Taluka.
“We were totally shocked to see the unannounced arrival of a large police force and surveyors to our village yesterday,” said villager, Shashikant Sawardekar.
“Melauli village is fully occupied and under uninterrupted possession of the local tribal and other indigenous residents of our village since times immemorial. The villagers of Melauli use the entire area bearing survey number 67/1, which is proposed to the IIT project. The demarcation for the proposed IIT on these lands cannot be carried out without our consent,” said Shubham Shivolkar.
On Wednesday, Land Survey officials began demarcation of the land for IIT Goa project.
