Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant assured the House that the scrap yard policy for the state would be drafted within next three months, while admitting that these businesses have been illegally operating last twenty years.
Sawant was responding to the question tabled by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao about the illegal scrap yards. He said that the policy would be drafted in three months and all the scrap yards would be located separately by giving them the land.
The chief minister said that the scrap yards operating in the residential areas would be moved out on priority basis.
The opposition benches including Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai, AAP MLAs Cruz Silva, Venzy Viegas, Revolutionary Goans Party MLA Viresh Borkar questioned the government over the issue.
Alemao alleged that the state authorities were hand in glove with the illegal scrap yard mafia.
Participating in the discussion, State Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserratte said that 380 scrap yards have been issued notices by the state government. He said that once the policy is in place, they would be relocated in a separate land.
