Panaji:  Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission (GSRLM), is a Govt of Goa initiative for promotion of sustainable livelihood in rural areas. The Mission empowers rural women Self Help Groups (SHGs) with capacity building, credit linkage, livelihood and market support. It aims to make a multidimensional impact on the lives of Goan rural households by mobilizing them, particularly women, into robust grassroots institutions of their own where, with the strength of the group behind them, they will not only be economically empowered, but also be able to exert voice and accountability over service providers of education, health, nutrition and finance.
As on date GSRLM is working with 3000SHGs covering 36,000 number of house-holds. Authentic Goan food products are made by the various SHGs. Also the creativity of rural people in terms of handicraft is mesmerizing. So, to provide wider market to products made by SHGs , having a website makes it pretty easy to spread a word about your business when people are searching for them.
To make the products made by the SHGs one click way, Goverment is launching ‘www.goabazaar.org’, a dedicated website which offers products made by self helf Groups (SHGs). At present, producer-SHGs use their own labels and market the product on their own. This hinders the marketing of SHG products on a larger scale owing to fragmented availability under various labels.
Hence, state government has decided to bring all SHG products under one brand name and logo, to capture urban niche markets for SHG-made products. All products produced by these SHGs will be sell under the brand name ‘Stree shakti’. When you buy streeshakti products you are encouraging entrepreneurship among women SHG members and contributing to women empowerment in rural Goa.
The website presents a range of authentic homemade goan foods, handicrafts, home decor items, organic farm produce, services, embroidery products produced across 12 blocks of Goa. This step will help in a big way in making women in villages financially independent and in overall improvement of the rural economy. According to a release, over 200 products from 157 SHGs can initially purchased through Goa bazaar website. Later remaining products of SHGs will be added. Customers can search, buy quality products made by these SHGs and also learn more about the artisans through this platform.
The inauguration for the www.goabazaar.org website will be held on 15th August 2021 at the hands of Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Chief Moinister, Goa, and in the distinguished presence of Shri. Michael V. Lobo, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development , Goa, Shri. Atanasio Monserrate MLA, Panjim Constituency, Shri. Rohit Joe Monserrate Mayor, Corporation of The City of Panjim, Shri.
