GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar confirms that he has quit the post

Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar on Friday confirmed that he has resigned from the post taking full responsibility of poor performance of the party during recently held Zilla Panchayat polls.

Chodankar said that earlier during the week he has submitted his resignation to Party President Sonia Gandhi and State desk incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Congress party had won only on four seats during recently held Zilla Panchayat polls, results of which were announced on December 14.

“Taking full responsibility of ZP results. I have tendered my resignation fom the post of GPCC chief ,” he said without elaborating further.

In April 2018, Chodankar was declared as GPCC chief replacing Shantaram Naik, who was former Member of Parliament.

Chodankar was heading the party during 2018 Lok Sabha elections in which the party won one of out of two seats in Goa. South Goa LS candidate Francisco Sardinha had won the seat defeating BJP’s sitting MP Narendra Sawaikar.
