Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Friday wrote to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stating that Government needs to draw vaccination strategy and monitoring team of MLAs headed by the chie minister.

Khaunte said “for a successful completion of Immunisation against COVID, we need to firm up a COVID Vaccination Strategy and a Monitoring Team of MLAs headed by the Chief Minister himself while the Health Ministerwill dedicate his Ministry to resource the endeavour.”

Khaunte said “  working Together, I am sure that we can achieve the Proud Milestone of becoming the First COVID Immunised State in India!”

“ I place myself and my resources at the CMO’s disposal to ensure Total Vaccination in my constituency and the whole of Goa,” he wrote in the letter.

His letter comes a day when Goa government opened up online booking for the vaccination for people between 18-44 years of age and also including more sections under the category of Frontline warriors.

Khaunte rued that he was not taken into confidence by the government on the vaccination issue.

“I emphatically take your clarion call for Vaccination but as an Elected Representative, I am yet to be taken into confidence on Goa Government’s Vaccination Strategy. While promising my whole hearted commitment to the noble cause projected by you, I take the liberty to put forth a few constructive suggestions.”

“ I agree to disagree on the methodology put forth that each Panch Member or Councillor will take 10 people for vaccination.”

He said “this is an Under-Utilisation of the Elected Representatives who can play a much more Constructive Role in the Vaccination Drive if taken into confidence.”

“Their Proactive involvement will ensure the success of Goa Government’sVaccination Drive and hence Health Ministry should be directed to devise a Strategy to use their Local Logistics Expertise.”

He said “as you mentioned very accurately, each of these local representatives have a clear working knowledge of the demographics of their areas.”

Khaunte said that this knowledge will help in covering as well as in identifying and vaccinating the senior citizen, physically challenged and other such persons who cannot make it to the vaccination centres.

“Mass Vaccination centres should give way to multiple vaccination points in each locality under the responsibility of the MLAs, Sarpanchs and Councillors irrespective of their political affiliations.”

“ Mobile vaccination units can be placed at the disposal of the MLAs with directions to coordinate its full utilisation. MLAs can also be entrusted with coordination of demographic data between the CMO and last mile delivery of vaccine.”
