Panaji :The state Govt. on Tuesday decided to go ahead with the three projects claiming that they were necessary for the development of Goa. Power minister defended the power project saying ,”If you need development some destruction is bound to happen. We only need to see how it can be minimized.”
PWD Minister Deepk Pausaker told media that, “the Govt. has decided to go ahead with the projects with minimum destruction of nature and not causing any hardship to people. People who have lost their land will be compensated”
The proposed projects include
1) Double-tracking of the Vasco-Castlerock railway line
2) Four-laning of the Goa-Belgavi stretch of the National Highway
3) Laying of inter-state power transmission lines
These projects have been met with heavy opposition from environmentalists, NGOs as well as political parties, who believed that the proposed projects in Mollem forest will cause loss of flora and fauna.
