Panaji: Goa’s age old Archives which are considered to be one of the oldest in the Asia will now be digitalized under the Central government’s Smart City Mission scheme, State Archives and Archeology minister Vijai Sardesai said.
Sardesai who assured to digitalise Archives during recently held monsoon sessio of the Assembly that the proposal has been mooted to take up digitalization of archives under Panaji Smart City Mission, an initiative of the union government.
He said that the Archies are presently housed in Portuguese-era structure in Panaji and have often been considered by people as unsafe due to the dilapidated condition of the building.
“Also the practise of photocopying these ancient papers of inscription and description is considered a retrograde practice that should be replaced by digitalization,” the minister said.
