Margao: Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) has thanked Goa Forward Party Chief and TCP minister Vijai Sardesai for his intervention which led to Union government solving their issue about Continous Discharge Certificate (CDC).
Union Shipping Ministry in its order yesterday had done away with the mandatory SSC certificate for giving CDC to Seamen, provided they have enough experience of sailing.
The demand was passed after Sardesai had written communication to Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari listing out the grievance of the Seamen community from Goa.
GSAI Spokesman Dixon Vaz, addressing a press conference in Margao, said that the latest circular of doing away with the SSC has benefitted around 2,000 families in Goa.
“Sardesai knows the importance of employment in the State and he followed up the matter to its logical end. We are thankful to him,” he said.
Vaz said that South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar had also tried to take up the issue but had failed to get the results.
