Panaji: Goa Women Forward (GWF) on Thursday condemned the high rate of rapes registered in the state of Goa claiming that the law and order situation has collapsed.

GWF Chief Ashma Sayed told reporters in Panaji that 39 cases of rape have been registered during last six months, which means that there is a rape after every five days.

She was referring to the recent incident of kidnapping and raping of a minor girl at Quepem.

Sayed said that in the past, such incidents of rapes have been unheard of, but now it has become a regular affair indicating that the law and order machinery has failed.

She said that there are several villages were there are no street lights. “The culprits are taking advantage of such dark spots. Every parent is crying because there is no safety of women,” she said.
