Goa Tourism Dept issues notice to three online agencies including Make My Trip for operating illegally

Panaji: Goa Tourism Department on Wednesday issued show cause notices to three online travel agencies including Haryana-based Make My Trip for doing the business in the coastal state without permission from the authorities.

Goa Tourism Department’s Deputy Director Kuldeep Arolkar on Wednesday issued notices to three online travel agencies including Haryana-based Make My Trip under provisions of Tourist Trade Act.

The department has said that these agencies which also includes Lohono.com and Goavillas.com were operating without prior permission from the State Tourism department, which is mandated as per the law.

These agencies have been given ten days time to submit their replied, he said adding that the matter is fixed for hearing before him on December 27. 2023.

Arolkar said that these agencies were undertaking online transactions and sale of Hotel Rooms without proper registration from the Tourism Department.

He said that the as per the Amendment to Tourist Trade Act, every online service provider and travel agency has to register with Tourism department. The online tracking and monitoring team of tourism department noted that these three agencies were violating various provisions and were involved in an online sale of hotels , private villas, cottages, and other services, he said.

Arolkar said that the department has been cracking down on violators and has constituted a Special Team to track online illegal activity of the operators.
