Panaji: Goa government will develop four its villages as “fishing villages” under central government’s scheme, providing all the necessary infrastructure required for this traditional business in these places, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.
Addressing the inaugural function of Goa Mega Aqua Fish Festival on Friday, Sawant appealed people to take up fishing as a full fledged business and reap the benefits of various schemes introduced by State Fisheries department.
“Under the Central government’s funding, Goa will develop its four villages as a fishing villages. Two fishing villages would be in each district,” the chief minister announced in presence of State Fisheries Minister Nilkant Halarnkar.
He said that the infrastructure like fishing jetties would be set up in these villages.
Sawant said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced several schemes to give boost to the blue economy. “The people living in the coastal states can take maximum benefit of these schemes,” he said.
The chief minister appealed people to take up fishing as a full fledged profession as there are several schemes launched by State Fisheries Department to support the industry.
Sawant said that the fisheries sector plays an important role in achieving the state government’s aim of “Swayampurna Goa.” He said that the initiatives like sagar mitra has taken the administration to the doorsteps of the fishing community.
