Goa selected as best performing state in Health, family planning, women empowerment for JRD Tata Memorial Award

New Delhi: Population Foundation of India, a NGO which promotes and advocates for the effective formulation and implementation of gender-sensitive population, health and development strategies and policies, announced Goa as the best performing state under the ‘Non-high focus large category for the 7th JRD Tata Memorial Awards.”

 Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has been invited to receive the award in New Delhi on December 18.

Poonam Mutreja, the Executive Director of the Foundation, has said that to honour the legacy of its founder Mr JRD Tata in the year 1996, the Population Foundation of India instituted the JRD Tata Memorial Awards to reward the progress and efforts made by states, UTs and districts in India to meet their citizens’ reproductive health needs.

“It is with great pleasure that we inform you that Goa has been selected as the best-performing state under the ‘Non-high Focus Large States’ category for the 7ht JRD Tata Memorial Awards. The Award includes a financial support of Rs. 5 Lakhs for the state of Goa. The ceremony si scheduled ot take place at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on December 18, 2023 from 3:30-5:15 pm, and will be followed by an Oration by Mr N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons,” the letter reads.

The foundation has said that this selection was based on an index of 42 indicators recommended by an eminent Technical Advisory Committee for the Awards, which significantly impact various aspects, including reproductive health, adolescent health, gender equity, family planning, water, sanitation and hygiene, womens’ empowerment, gender-based violence, and the population’s fertility level.
