Goa Police Constable Held for Allegedly Supplying Ganja Inside Colvale Jail

Mapusa: In a serious breach of law enforcement integrity, a Goa Police constable has been caught red-handed for allegedly supplying ganja inside the Colvale Central Jail.

The accused has been identified as Sumesh Mandrekar, a 2024 batch police constable and a resident of Sanquelim in Sattari. According to sources, Mandrekar was apprehended while allegedly attempting to supply approximately 1.65 kilograms of ganja, packed in four separate packets, to inmates lodged inside the high-security prison.

Authorities acted swiftly upon receiving specific inputs and detained the constable during the operation. The contraband was seized on the spot, and Mandrekar was immediately taken into custody for further questioning.

Sources further informed that the accused was produced before Superintendent of Police Suchita Dessai. Officials have initiated a detailed inquiry to ascertain the extent of the network involved and whether more individuals are connected to the case.

This incident has raised serious concerns regarding internal security mechanisms within correctional facilities, particularly the involvement of a serving police personnel in such illegal activities.
