Panaji: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Tuesday launched the “Bima Sakhi Yojana” in the state with the aim of providing “insurance for all.”
Goa became the second state after Haryana to launch this flagship scheme, which was envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After distributing Bima Sakhi Yojana letters to the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister said that the scheme will not only provide financial support to these women, but in the future, the role of Bima Sakhi will be very significant because “Insurance for all” is the aim of the government.
He appealed to all women to be a part of this venture and contribute their bit towards “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
The Chief Minister said that the special scheme does not only focus on women empowerment, but also aims to enhance life insurance coverage at the grassroots level.
“The scheme shall create mass awareness about the importance of life insurance among every Goan,” he said.
He recalled that PM Narendra Modi launched this scheme on December 9 in Haryana.
“I am sure life insurance is one of the significant sectors, and through Bima Sakhis, the expansion of the life insurance sector will be achieved,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that at the beginning, the Bima Sakhis will be trained and will receive a stipend of Rs. 7,000 per month in the first year.
“Rs. 6,000 per month in the second year and Rs. 5,000 in the third year. Altogether, these Bima Sakhis will receive Rs. 2,16,000 during the period of three years,” he said.
