Margao: The BJP government has completely failed on management of Covid pandemic in Goa. The faulty policies of the government has resulted in collapse of economy in Goa. The people are feeling insecure and unsafe due to deteriorating law and order situation in the State. Goa is under Health, Financial and Law & Order emergency stated Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.

I am deeply pained and shocked with the news of suicide by a Boy for not affording to buy Smart Phone. This unfortunate incident is a result of failure of the government to decide on the Educational Action Plan post Covid pandemic in Goa.

He addressed media with former minister Aleixo Sequeira, South Goa District Congress president Joseph Dias at Congress District Office at Margao.

COVID SITUATION IN GOA:

It is unfortunate that former minister Jose Philip D’Souza was compelled to expose the ill treatment given to his beloved brother and sitting Councillor of Mormugao late Pascoal D’Souza at Covid Hospital at Margao.

There is complete collapse of Covid Management. Govt can’t even provide clean and hot water to Patients. The food quality is extremely pathetic. Government must immediately appoint a proper caterer who will provide food with utmost hygiene and care Digambar Kamat demanded.

There is complete confusions on Plan A, Plan B, Plan C etc. announced by various Ministers in the Government. I demand that the Chief Minister and the Health Minister must come up with the concrete action plan and stop confusing the people.

It is shocking that even the ruling MLA’s are expressing displeasure and concerns about supply of Essential Commodities to Containment Zones like Mangor Hill, Zuarinagar etc. I do not understand why Opposition MLA’s were kept out of the Meetings held by the Ministers to discuss on Covid situation in Goa. We were not even informed about the said meeting Kamat stated.

INCIDENT AT MELAULIM SATTARI:

Leader of Opposition strongly condemned the act of the Police to supress the voice of the people in Sattari by arresting them for holding Press Conference. The Constitution has given right to every Citizen for freedom of expression and freedom of protest in a Democratic manner. I demand that the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police must take serious cognizance of the issue and act.

COLLAPSE OF LAW AND ORDER:

After Santa Cruz Gang War, now its demolition of houses by bouncers at Panjim and Kidnapping of Lady in Bicholim. The Law & Order situation has completely collapsed in Goa. The BJP government is in party mode hosting “Party with the Difference”. The people are feeling insecure and unsafe alleged Digambar Kamat.

COLLAPSE OF ECONOMY IN GOA:

The economy has completely collapsed in the State of Goa. The Government has no money to pay Monthly Pensions to Widows, Elderly Persons, Persons with Disabilities under Gruh Aadhar and other Social Welfare Schemes. The Marginalized Sector like Motorcycle Pilots, Rickshaw, Tempo and Bus Operators, Taxi Drivers, Khajekars, Phulkars, Chanekar, Kakankars, Jewellery Artisans, Bar and Tavern Owners, are under complete financial distress. But, government has no plans to revive the economy.

I want to ask the Chief Minister what happened during the virtual meeting he had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi three days back. What happened to the Share of Goa from Rs. 20 Lakh Crore package announced by the Prime Minister a month back? What happened to Rs. 2000 Crore package demanded by the Chief Minister? What happened to Goa’s rightful share Rs. 750 Crore of GST which is due from Centre? What happened to Rs. 100 Crore Economic Revival package demanded by the Congress Party Digambar Kamat questioned

ASSEMBLY SESSION:

Government must release White Paper on Finance and on Covid before Business Advisory Committee meeting. After studying the White Paper we will decide about the future course of action pertaining to duration of the Assembly Session.

The meeting convened by the Speaker was informal and we discussed overall Covid Situation and its effect on the functioning of the Assembly. But now, the Public sentiment is that the Session must be convened to discuss various issues pertaining to the people. We will not allow the government to escape and will take a commitment from the Speaker of holding a full-fledged Assembly Session in the month of November – December. However, we will not allow the government to pass the budget during the One day Session and will only permit to give four month extension to Vote on Account Digambar Kamat Said.

CONGRESS GOVT. DID NOT ACCEPT JETC RECOMMENDATIONS ON POWER TARIFF RISE:

The Joint Electricity Tariff Commission (JETC) is just a recommendatory body. It is not binding on the government to accept their recommendations. The Congress government in 2007 to 2012 did not accept their recommendation of increasing the Power tariff in the interest of the people of Goa stated former Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira. He said that government must immediately allow the people to make Cheque payments and also start the drop box facility for consumers which will ensure Social distancing. He also urged the government to wave off late payment fees and also demanded that due date extension should be given to the consumers.

EDUCATIONAL PLAN:

The government is responsible for pressurizing the students and the parents as well as the teachers for having no clarity and Action Plan on the way ahead for imparting education in Goa. The government has miserably failed on coming out with a policy on Online Education.

The government is pushing the teachers to report to schools and other duties going against the Circular dated 6th July 2020 issued by Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India stated South Goa District President Joseph Dias. He demanded that the government should immediately reverse their decision.
