Panaji: The Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Friday took a dig at the state government over providing free electricity in the state after residents of Hyderabad were promised free electricity. AAP stated that while chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant refuses to consider providing free electricity to Goans his party colleagues in Mumbai are agitating for the same while his party has promised free electricity to the residents of Hyderabad in Telengana.
“BJP General Secretary Devyani Pharande led party workers in a demonstration in Mumbai that the government provide free electricity to those consuming up to 100 units of power per month and pointed out that this was an election promise made to the people of Maharashtra,” it stated.
AAP inferred that Hyderabad which is facing the civic polls the BJP manifesto was released by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the manifesto promised free electricity and water supply to the residents.
Hitting out at CM Sawant AAP stated, “Ironically while the BJP is pressing or promising free electricity in neighbouring Maharashtra and Hyderabad, in Goa BJP chief minister refuses to consider the demand of the people for free electricity despite a debate on the issue that lasted for nearly a week and grabbed everybody’s attention.”
In fact following power minister Nilesh Cabral’s dismal performance at the debate on power scenario, the Goa government announced a onetime settlement scheme to enable people to clear their outstanding power bills with either a total cancellation or reduction of the delayed payment cess.
“The fact that BJP is now offering free power supply in some states just proves that the Arvind Kejriwal model of power tariff is better than what was followed by different political parties today and AAP shall continue its battle to get the same implemented in Goa,” said AAP leader Adv Surel Tilve while speaking to media persons.
