Panaji: Goa cabinet on Wednesday decided to auction all its vehicles which are currently off-the-road due to various conditions.
Briefing mediapersons after chairing the state cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that all the government vehicles, which are unused, would be auctioned through melas to be organised at Margao (South Goa) and Mapusa (North Goa).
Sawant said that there are more than 200 vehicles which are off-the-road and would be part of the auction. He said that those vehicles which are less than 15 years of age could be purchased by the people and reused.
He said that those vehicles which are more than 15 years old will have to be purchased and scrapped as they will not be allowed to be used again on the road.
Sawant said that there are 34 vehicles which are less than 15 years old.
The Chief Minister also appealed to people to bring to the notice of the state government if there are any government vehicles parked at the roadside and unused for years.
