Panaji:  Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar on Monday welcomed the farmers’ bills which were passed in the Parliament, claiming that it will also help the farmers in the coastal state.

Addressing press conference in presence of BJP Goa Unit President Sadanand Tanavade, Kavlekar claimed that the farming community in the State have welcomed the bill passed in the parliament by Narendra Modi-led government.

“There are some political parties, who had actually introduced such kind of bill in their manifesto, but are now opposing it for the sake of opposition,” he said.

Kavlekar said that the bills would help the farmers across the country, including Goa, to do away with middlemen, who were controlling the prices of the farm products.

“Neither farmer nor the customer were benefitting due to presence of the middle men. The bill will do away with the middle men providing liberty to the farmers to sell their produce to anyone they want, and whenever they want,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that those who are opposing the Bills don’t know exactly why  they have been objecting to it. “They are just opposing for the sake of it. Their action is anti-farmers,” he said.

Kavlekar said that the provision in the bill, which allows the farmers, to sell decide the buyer for his crop even before harvesting will provide financial security.

“The farmers acros Goa have called me personally expressing their support for the Bill,” he said.
