Panaji: The Goa Crime Branch has arrested a 33-year-old man and rescued a woman during an anti-human trafficking operation conducted near Calangute in North Goa, police said on Thursday.
The raid was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday near Palmirna Resort in Calangute, Bardez, following specific information about a prostitution racket, police said.
The accused, identified as Punna Hari Prasad, a native of Telangana currently residing in Arpora, North Goa, was allegedly caught while arriving on a scooter to deliver the woman to prospective customers for the purpose of prostitution, police said.
The victim was rescued during the operation, which was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Jivba Dalvi.
Based on a complaint filed by Police Inspector Vikas Deykar, the Crime Branch Police Station registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway, police added.
The operation was led by PI Vikas Deykar with the assistance of officers and personnel of the Crime Branch, along with representatives of NGO ARZ, police said.
