Panaji: Goa celebrated International Yoga Day by holding various events across the state including that in the heritage site of Old Goa, Fort Aguda and Dr Shama Prasad Mukherjee stadium near Panaji.
Union minister of State for Food Processing Prahalad Singh Patel was the guest for the function at Fort Aguada in Sinquerim village while Union minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik participated in the function at Old Goa.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant participated in the state level function organised at Dr Shama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium at Bambolim village near here.
Addressing the function at Old Goa, Naik said that globally people have been commemorating this day. “The theme for this year is Yoga for Humanity. Yoga connects humanity and also countries together,” he said.
State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, who participated in the function at Fort Aguada said that the we realized te importance of Yoga during COVID-19 times.
“We realized the importance of having disciplined life and yoga teaches you it,” he said adding that the mental and physical wellness is important for life.
He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making this event a global one.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant in his tweet on International Yoga Day adviced people to practice Yoga for enrichment of Atman.
“Yoga relaxes the body, calms the mind and enriches Atman. On the #InternationalYogaDay, I urge everyone to practice Yoga for enrichment of Atman,” he tweeted.
In another tweet, the chief minister wrote “Wishes to all on the occasion of #InternationalDayofYoga. Let us together create awareness about the benefit of yoga and make yoga an integral part of our daily lives.”
