Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and urged him to expedite political reservation for the Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
In a post on X after the meeting, Sawant said Shah gave a “positive assurance” on his request to expedite political reservation for the ST community in the state Assembly.
“Grateful for his positive assurance on my request to expedite political reservation for the Scheduled Tribes in the Goa Legislative Assembly,” the chief minister said.
Sawant also briefed the Union Home Minister about various initiatives and development works being undertaken by the Goa government and sought his continued guidance.
During the meeting, the chief minister invited Shah to attend the presentation ceremony of the President of India’s Police Colours to the Goa Police.
On behalf of the BJP’s Goa unit, Sawant also invited the Union Home Minister to inaugurate the party’s new state headquarters, according to the post.
The issue of political reservation for the ST community has gained prominence in Goa following the granting of Scheduled Tribe status to several communities in the state in recent years.
