Panaji: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday accused INDIA Alliance condemned the utterance of words against MGP’s GoaMLA Jit Arolkar.

Sawant’s reaction comes after Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao (Congress) had uttered derogatory words against Arolkar during the campaigning for North Goa Lok Sabha seat on Monday.

On Tuesday, Sawant wrote on X “those who tomtom about saving democracy and attempt to misguide people by creating a fake narrative of the constitution being in danger actually have no respect for any democratic values.”

“The use of highly deplorable language by the opposition leader in Goa against NDA MLA Shri Jit Arolkar exposes the hollow agenda of the opposition on democracy and the constitution. It’s worth noting that the INDI alliance is led by Congress, which gave India its darkest moment in democracy: the Emergency,” he said.

Congress has fielded Ramakant Khalap as their candidate from North who is pitted against sitting MP Shripad Naik of the BJP.

Alemao in his speech had termed Arolkar as “lapit” which in Konkani means vagabond. Arolkar is a member of legislative assembly representing Mandrem assembly segment on MGP ticket. He is a first time MLA.
