Goa Administration puts people in three talukas on flood alert

Panaji: Goa Administration has appealed people living on Chapora River Bank in three talukas to remain alert as there was increase in the water levels.

North Goa District Magistrate on Friday have put people residing along the banks of River Chapora in Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez talukas on alert after there was an increase in water in the Tillari reservoir.

“The alert is issued as a precautionary measure in light of Red Alert as per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) as the discharge from Tillari Dam has started,” reads the media statement by the State government.

The Administration said that its officials along with State Water Resources Department are “monitoring the situation and Maharashtra officials are monitoring the situation at the Tillari reservoir round-the-clock and giving updates.”

Tillari Reservoir is located on Goa-Maharashtra border in North District.

“The Revenue Officials through Talathis and Village Panchayat have sounded the alert to all the residents of villages falling along the River Chapora in Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez,” the press release adds.

Goa has been receiving incessant rainfall for last three days. IMD has forecasted the heavy rains to continue for more five days.
