GMCH gets new advanced microscope for its neurosurgery dept

Panaji: Goa Medical College and Hospital will now have better facility at its neurosurgery department with the inauguration of a latest microscope.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inaugurated operating Neurosurgery Carl Zeis Pantieoro 800 microscope with high-definition monitor with icg fluoroscopy in presence of Dean of GMC Dr Shivanand Bandekar and Dr Ponraj K Sundaram, Head of Neurosurgery department at GMC.

After the inauguration, Rane said that the government and doctors will have to think in proactive manner.

“We don’t want patient to move out of Goa for any kind of treatment. We need to think beyond and give the best. Cancer is increasing rapidly. GMC is one of the best staff,” he said.

Dean of GMCH Dr Shivanand Bandekar said that this is the latest one which has got good feature and one of its kind in state of Goa. “It is worth around Rs two crore. Advantage of this is that it gives clear picture of tumours, can be connected to navigation machine and also find reception part of the tumour,” he said.

“This microscope can show 25 times enlargemnt of issue,” he added.
