GMC dean removed over inaction on seat increase

Panaji: State Government has removed Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) dean Dr Pradeep Naik over serious lapses in filing application for conversion of Diploma seats to PG seats in GMC.

In an order issued today, Under Secretary Trupti Manerkar has said that the inaction has been considered as serious lapse by the government, who has also ordered an inquiry against Naik.

Medical Superintendent Dr Shivanand Bandekar is directed to hold charge of Dean and Director, Institute of psychiatry and human behavior (IPHB) in addition to his own duties until further orders.

Meanwhile, Naik is been directed to report to the public health department , secretariat- Porvorim until further orders.

Dean was issued show cause notice by the government last week after GMC failed to apply for an upgrade for these seats before the Union ministry, for which the deadline was January 25, 2019.
