Panaji: Goa Forward Party on Friday welcomed decision of state government to cancel the Zilla Panchayat polls till further orders, claiming that Goans should now seriously start adopting social distancing.
“We welcome wholeheartedly the wise, though belated decision to cancel the ZP Polls as well as the exams and allay the legitimate apprehensions of Goemkars (Goans) of Community Transmission of Covid-19,” GFP President Vijai Sardesai said.
He said that this has been the consistent demand of his party for last few days.
“We hope now that the government will now get down to honestly and seriously preparing for the worst and enforcing Social Distancing, if need be with complete lockdown as called for by the Hon PM and as already heeded to courageously by the religious authorities in Goa be they Hindu, Christian , Muslim and others, despite their religious sentiments,” he said.
“Let the health and well-being of Goemkars take precedence over all our petty and party interests,” Sardesai added.
State Election Commission on Friday announced postponement of Zilla Panchayat elections till further orders.
Similarly, State Education Department also postponed all the examinations between ninth to twelfth standard.
