Festival de Goa, which the organisers boast will be the State’s largest and biggest food, music, art and fashion festival, will be held in mid-November in North Goa said musician and singer Joaquim D’Souza, who is a spokesperson and Advisory Committee member of the Festival de Goa.
The 3-day extravaganza will feature several bands, musical groups and 100s of Goan musicians and artisans – the best of the best says D’Souza, who will perform and showcase their talent at the Festival de Goa. The venue is yet to be finalised but is definitely going to be in North Goa, the organisers stated.
“We are expecting nearly 25-30,000 visitors daily if not more. There will be about 50 stalls showcasing various culinary delicacies, wine, feni and other art and cultural items of the State. Fashion designers who wish to showcase their traditional Goan designs are welcome to participate in the Festival de Goa. This will be a major tourist attraction and we will promote and advertise the Festival de Goa abroad to attract thousands of foreign tourists who want to cherish and enjoy the traditional Goa. There will be a separate section for the ‘rest of India’, where one can savor for eg north or south Indian delicacies. In that sense its going to be a Festival de India in Goa, but of course the focus is on Goa and Goemkarponn. We want to officially showcase Goa to the World at the Festival de Goa, making the event a big hit with foreign tourists,” Trevor Menezes of the Goa Business Promotion Forum (GBPF) said.
The Festival de Goa is organised by the Goa Business Promotion Forum (GBPF) – a forum of Goan musicians and artisans, and will feature the crème de la crème of Goan music, gourmet, fashion and art and culture. While the organisers are tight-lipped about the venue of the mammoth festival, sources said it may be held at Vagator. We have applied to the government for relevant permissions. The paperwork is being done. We will announce the venue once the permissions and paperwork is in place, Menezes said.
