Kakoda: The 43rd anniversary of the Sanguem-Quepem Journalists’ Association (based in Curchorem) and the death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, with various programs.
An inter-school patriotic song competition will be held during the event, which begins at 3:30 PM at the Sharada Multipurpose Hall of Sharada English High School, Savordem.
On this occasion, the ‘Late Pundalik Tukoba Naik Memorial Award for Best Government Employee’ will be presented to Manohar Karekar (Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies); the ‘Sanguem-Quepem Journalists’ Association Award for Best Female Government Employee’ to Deepali Naik (Director, Rural Development Agency); and the ‘Late Gajanan Shenvi Borkar Memorial Award for Friend of Journalists’ to Chandu Korgaonkar (Official Photographer, Department of Information and Publicity).
Additionally, the ‘Late Smt. Kala Suresh Naik Memorial Award for Best Social Worker’ will be conferred upon Maria Fernandes (retired teacher and social worker), while the ‘Sanguem-Quepem Journalists’ Association Award for Versatile Personality’—presented specially this year—will be awarded to Deepak Narvekar (Deputy General Manager for Marketing, Hotels, and Public Relations at the Goa Tourism Development Corporation).
Students who achieved distinction in the Goa Board Class 10 and Class 12 examinations will also be felicitated.
Dignitaries including Art and Culture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai, Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, former Minister Deepak Pauskar, South Goa Zilla Panchayat Chairperson Siddharth Gauns Desai, and others will be present at the event.
The proceedings will begin with the offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Tilak in the presence of the dignitaries.
Recognizing the significance of this event, the President of the Journalists’ Association, Mayur Naik, and the organizing committee have appealed to all citizens to attend and encourage the students.
