Panaji: The e-auction of the Iron Ore which is piled up in different areas of the State would begin in next 15-20 days, which will start the mining activity, Chief minister Pramod Sawant told the House on Monday.

Sawant was responding to the zero hour mention by BJP MLA Pravin Zantye who had raised concern over the impending crisis on this industry after supreme court quashed 88 mining leases in the state.

During the ongoing monsoon session, the chief minister told the House that State government has been working to resolve this issue. “Central government has been working to ensure that this industry resumes in a legal way. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had recently chaired the meeting to find out solution for the problem,” Sawant said, adding that the follow up meeting on the issue would be held next week.

“In the meantime, we are e-auctioning the ore which was extracted and lying in the State. The e-auctioning will happen within next 15-20 days and within six months, the mining of the Iron Ore dumps will start,” Sawant said.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Zantye said that the workers are panicked the services of many is terminated by the mining firms while many have been threatened to be laid off.
