Porvorim: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar on Friday dismissed one of the application seeking to produce additional document in connection with the disqualification petition filed against ten MLAs by Congress party.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar has filed disqualification petition against ten MLAs who had left the Congress to join BJP in the year 2019.

The Speaker had heard arguments in the matter on February 26, 2021, while reserve on it is pending.

In a fresh development, Chodankar was summoned by the Speaker on Friday to his chamber in connection with the matter, wherein he was told that one of his application seeking to produce additional documents, moved by him in the past, has been dismissed.

Abhijit Gosawi, a lawyer representing Chodankar, told reporters that they had sought to produce an additional document in the matter.

He said that the Speaker was requested to give his verdict on the matter as soon as possible as the final arguments in it are already heard on February 26.

Ten MLA led by then Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar had split from the party in July 2019 to join BJP. Kavlekar is currently Deputy Chief minister in Pramod Sawant-led cabinet.

Gosawi said that their disqualification petition argues that the split by ten MLAs was not valid and it attracts anti-defection law.
