Disembarkment of Goan crew begins in Mumbai

Panaji: Following union government’s guidelines, Goans who were working on three different ships, currently anchored in Mumbai, have begun disembarkment.

State Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the disembarkment of Goan crew members on the ships have begun.

Union Ministry of Home Affairs had issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Seafarers.

Sawant tweeted “I am happy to inform that sign-off of seafarers on Marella has started at Mumbai port. Karnika vessel is on anchorage and Angriya vessel is docked. Goan seafarers will be tested at Mumbai port after which they will be brought to Goa in accordance with the protocol/SOP of the GOI.”

Meanwhile, on Wednesday State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had said that the government is installing smart kiosks at Mormugao Port Trust to intensify COVID-19 facilities for seafarers before they exit the port.

In a statement issued here, Rane said “We are installing smart kiosks at Mormugao Port Trust to intensify testing facilities for the seafarers before they exit the port. This machinery to test samples for COVID-19 will help strengthen our fight against the virus and protect the citizens of the state.”
