Panaji, 25th October 2025: The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, has issued a show cause notice to a water sports operator for illegally operating a boat in a non-demarcated zone near Aguada Fort. The notice followed a report from the Tourist Police Unit, which identified that the boat bearing registration number PNJ-749 had drifted into the rocky sea area off Aguada Fort, violating prescribed safety and regulatory norms.
The operator was found conducting activities in contravention of the Policy for Registration of Water Sports Operators and Rule 3 of the Goa Tourist Places (Protection and Maintenance) (Boat Rides/Parasailing/Watersports Activities) Rules, 2005. The area in question is not demarcated for water sports activities, making such operations both unsafe and unauthorized.
The Department has directed the concerned operator to appear before the Prescribed Authority on November 4, 2025, to explain the violation and submit a formal response. Failure to comply will result in the matter being decided ex-parte and may lead to strict action under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982.
The Department of Tourism continues to work closely with the Tourist Police, coastal authorities, and local stakeholders to monitor and curb unauthorized tourism-related activities. This enforcement drive is part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to maintain safety, quality, and accountability within Goa’s tourism ecosystem.
