Coronavirus suspect foreigner admitted at GMCH tests negative

Panaji: In a major relief, the report of suspected Coronavirus patient who isolated at Goa Medical College and Hospital near here has tested ‘negative’, a senior official said.

GMCH Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar said that the test report of the patient who admitted in the isolation ward since January 28.

The patient is a foreigner who had arrived in Goa after visiting China, and had complained of a soarthroat, he said.

“We have received the report from Pune based labouratory and his sample has been tested negative. As per World Health Organisation guidelines, he can now be discharged from the ward,” Bandekar said.

Goa government on Thursday had said that there are six travelers under surveillance for suspected coronavirus infection of which one is isolated at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) near here.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, in a statement issued here had said that total six travelers are under surveillance for suspected coronavirus infection in Goa.

“Of the six, one is isolated at GMCH and other five are asymptomatic and are monitored on daily basis,” he had said.
