Contempt petition in HC against CCP on Maharaja casino office issue

Panaji: Social activist Kashinath Shetye has filed contempt petition before the Bombay High Court at Goa against CCP commissioner Ajit Roy  for violating the earlier orders of the court which had instructed the municipalities to keep footpaths clean.

Shetye has pointed out to the encroachment on footpath by Maharaja Casino which has put up its office opposite Old Secretariat.

The petition which would be taken up for admission on Monday has questioned whether the Respondents have committed Contempt of this Hon’ble Court by permitting the casinos to block footpath build illegal structures by creating private entry without permissions from NGPDA ,CCP etc and permitting hawkers on footpath which has been encroached by Hawkers who pay haftas to the Municipal Commissioner Ajit Roy .

The pleading also seeks to question whether the Respondents have further committed a contempt by permitting the Maharaja casinos for four weeks inspite orders enclosed to this Petition before this Hon’ble Court in the same subject matter.

Shetye has attached various orders of the HC which had asked the municipalities to form special squad and along with police clear the footpaths.
