Panaji: NCP (SP) group leaders from Goa on Tuesday met their Congress counterparts to begin talks for an alliance between both parties ahead of the 2027 Goa Legislative Assembly elections.
Nationalist Congress Party (SP) Goa chief Jose Philip D’Souza, along with office bearers, met Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar at the latter’s head office in Panaji.
Leaders from both parties held an hour-long meeting to discuss the alliance for the upcoming elections.
Talking to reporters, D’Souza said that he had received a call from party high command Supriya Sule asking him to join the discussions on an alliance with Congress in Goa.
“We are here at the behest of our high command. There is a general feeling in Goa that all parties which are opposed to the BJP should form an alliance,” he said.
D’Souza said that the talks were “preliminary in nature” and that discussions on seat sharing and other details would be held subsequently.
“You will see an NCP (SP) MLA in the next Goa Assembly,” he said.
