Panaji: Congress party has shortlisted two names from North and South Goa each for the Lok Sabha tickets, which are now placed before All India Congress Committee’s screening committee.
Sources stated that Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar and Ramakant Khalap are the two shortlisted names for the North Goa while Pratima Coutinho and Francis Sardinha are featuring in South Goa.
Initially, Chodankar’s name had figured on both the seats but he later withdrew from the South. Interestingly, both the shortlisted names in North Goa are not amongst the seven people who had applied for the ticket.
Both the names from South Goa had applied.
Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee which supported the name of Pratima from South, however, has refused to push for the name of Muktamala Shirodkar Fondvekar from North Seat.
The mahila Congress has preferred to rally behind its president.
The other names in North including that of Shrinivas Ramakant Khalap are kept on the back burner.
Sources stated that North Goa district committee supported the names of Chodankar and Khalap.
The final announcement is expected to happen in next two days.
The party had sought application from the leaders for the post from both the seats.
