Panaji:  Following resignation of GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar from the post, the party leaders and cadres have called for series of emergency meetings to convince him to withdraw the resignation.

Sources stated that Chodankar preferred to resign after a group of senior party leaders blamed him for the debacle in recently held Zilla Panchayat election. He has sent his resignation to National President Sonia Gandhi.

After his resignation, Chodankar has remained unavailable for comments, but sources confirmed that series of meetings are planned by his supporters to convince him to withdraw the decision.

“There is no doubt about the loyalty of Chodankar towards the party. He should not be blamed. There are some senior leaders who have been going to the media without any reason accusing him over various counts,” a senior Congress leader said.

Sources stated that the meeting of party’s core committee, District Committee and other well wishers are scheduled during the day.

Several leaders of the party have been visiting Chodankar at his residence in Margao since morning.  Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat was amongst those who met him convincing him to withdraw his resignation.
