Panaji: Days after its former alliance partner, the Goa Forward Party (GFP), announced a pre-poll alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Congress on Saturday said that its doors remain open to the Vijai Sardesai-led party for a possible alliance ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
The Goa Forward Party, which had forged a pre-poll alliance with the Congress for the 2022 Goa Assembly elections, recently announced the “Goa First” alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, leaving the Congress out of the arrangement.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Saturday after chairing a State Core Committee meeting, AICC Goa Desk In-charge Manikrao Thakrey said that his party has “not shut the doors on GFP or any other political party that wants to defeat the BJP in the state in the upcoming elections.”
“We have always been attempting to bring together all parties, including the GFP and the Revolutionary Goans Party, to form an alliance against the BJP. We have not closed the doors for anyone,” he said.
Responding to a question about the ‘Goa First’ alliance, Thakrey said that he had no knowledge of why the GFP announced its tie-up with the AAP.
“As far as we are concerned, our doors are still open for the GFP. We have to fight the election together against the BJP,” he said.
