Panaji: Congress in Goa on Sunday claimed that they are shocked at the “delayed, unscientific, partisan and supicious response of BJP-led  state government to national Coronavirus emergency.

“Congress is shocked and feeling disgusted  at the delayed, unscientific, partisan and suspicious response of Goa’s BJP Government to the national coronavirus emergency in Goa,” Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar said addressing a press conference in Panaji.

“Goa Government’s knee jerk response smacks of ignorance and incompetence. Chief minister Pramod Sawant and Health minister Vishwajit Rane wasted two precious months without making any headway with no concrete steps when Coronavirus scare was looming large,” he alleged.

Chodankar also questioned the wisdom behind invoking Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 by the state government.

“Sawant has slapped draconian Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897  upon the State of Goa.  There was no explanation why Goa, that has been sleeping over coronavirus since the past two months when the disease first landed in India suddenly woke up and enforced ‘emergency provisions’ before other more affected states,” he commented.

Chodankar said “CM did not explain why Goa that does not even have an Epidemic is invoking a Pandemic related Act even though it has no local facility to test it forget containing it.”

“Department of Health Research, Indian Council of Medical Research under Ministry of Health and Family welfare Govt. of India declared list of 51 National Laboratories Testing for COVID-19 and 56 additional collection Labs but could not find single laboratory of Goa,” he said.

“Why no efforts were made during last two months to start a Laboratory, this exposes non serious attitude of Goa Govt. if china could build special hospital in 10 days we cannot even start a Laboratory which is basic step for preparedness,” Chodanakar questioned.

The congress leader said that none of the private practitioners in Goa are aware where to send the patients and how & where to get testing done. “Government has not yet issued any advisory to them which again prove non serious approach of the government,” he stated.
