Panaji: Goa Police have arrested two accused, including one in Rajasthan, for running a drug peddling racket in Goa, seizing narcotics weighing 2.4 kilograms from one of the accused in South Goa.
A senior police officer stated that the first arrest took place on December 29, 2024, when Colva police arrested Sonu Kumar Chauhan (24) from Jaunpur, currently residing in Navelim village in South Goa.
Police said that the accused was arrested for possessing 2.401 kg of Ganja, worth Rs 2.4 lakh.
During the course of the investigation, the accused was produced before the court, and after obtaining police custody, he was thoroughly interrogated. He disclosed the name of the supplier as Rakesh Meghwal, who had supplied the narcotic drugs to him in Goa, police said.
The police further stated that, with the help of call monitoring and surveillance, they traced the location of Rakesh Meghwal to Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Accordingly, a team led by a police sub-inspector was formed to proceed to Udaipur, Rajasthan, on January 29, 2025.
The official said that, with the help of technical surveillance and electronic media and with the assistance of Gogunda Police Station, Udaipur, Rajasthan staff, the accused Rakesh Meghwal (19) was apprehended on January 31, 2025.
The accused was brought to Goa after procuring a transit warrant from the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court at Gogunda, police said.
The team of Colva police arrived in Goa along with the accused on February 3. During the investigation, the accused confessed to selling drugs to the first accused.
Both accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, police said.
