Code of Conduct: Assembly session curtailed, to begin on July 19

Panaji: Goa Legislative Assembly on Tuesday decided to curtail its ongoing Budget Session and continue from July 19 onwards due to the Code of Conduct imposed in the state owing to the forthcoming municipal elections.

The Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly which met on Tuesday afternoon resolved to curtail the ongoing Budget Session midway. The session was supposed to culminate on April 16.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat who had moved the resolution in the BAC along with other opposition members, said that the Assembly needs to be curtailed due to the ongoing code of conduct for municipal elections.

The State Election Commission on Tuesday morning had announced the schedule for five municipal council polls. The elections for five municipal councils will be held on April 23.

“Since code of conduct for the municipal elections has begun, it was decided in BAC to curtail the Assembly session and begin on July 19,” Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.

Sawant had presented the State Budget on March 24, which is yet to be passed on the floor of the House. The chief minister on Tuesday passed vote-on-account for various departments.
