Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday inaugurated forensic examination facilities, including polygraph and voice analysis testing, at a state-run laboratory in South Goa, saying the new infrastructure would help speed up investigations into criminal cases.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the facility at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Verna, South Goa.
Dr. Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that these facilities would expedite investigations into criminal cases in the state.
He said that earlier, samples had to be sent to laboratories in Gujarat or Bengaluru for narco-analysis and polygraph tests, causing delays in criminal investigations.
The Chief Minister said the state government has established the infrastructure and laboratory facilities required to carry out comprehensive forensic examinations.
Sawant said that new equipment for ballistic and fingerprint analysis has also been provided at the laboratory.
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister also inaugurated “Nyay Shruti e-Peshi”, a video conferencing facility that enables forensic officers to depose before various courts.
Sawant said that the courts are encouraging e-appearances and that this step will help in the timely disposal of cases.
He said that his government has been working to strengthen the criminal justice system so that justice is delivered on time.
Sawant said that the improvement in the forensic science laboratory is part of the broader effort to strengthen the criminal justice system.
