Century old port wall near Agassaim would be protected: Chandrakant Kavlekar

Porvorim: The Archeological remains of the centuries-old Sea port of Kadamba dynasty era near Panaji will be protected after expert agencies like Goa-based CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) completes its study on it, State Archives and Archeology minister Chandrakant Kavlekar told the House on Thursday.
Kavlekar was responding to a question tabled on the floor of the House by BJP MLA Francis Silveira, in whose constituency of St Andre, the centuries old sea port of the Kadamba period has been located.
“The Government is aware of the existence of the Gopakpattana port wall of the Kadamba period located at Moita, in Agassaim Village Panchayat in St. Andre Constituency,” he said referring to the Sea port.
Kavlekar said that the remains of Kadamba period Port wall and associated Archaeological Heritage is being studied by Directorate of Archives and Archaeology ands others like CSIR-NIO to establish its Archaeological importance.
“Protection and development of Archaeological remains at Agassaim will be planned as per outcome of the study,” he added.
