Panaji: In what seems to be a crackdown on anti-party activities ahead of scheduled civic polls, BJP in Goa on Friday removed its state spokesman Dattaprasad Naik from the post.

State BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade in a order issued on Friday relieved Naik of the post.

The Panaji-based leader is an arch rival of local MLA Atanasio Monserratte, who is heading panel for March 20 Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) polls.

The order issued by Tanavade on Friday reads “in view of the reconstitution of the responsibilities, you are hereby relieved as the Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Goa Pradesh.”

While Naik was not available for comments, sources in the party claimed that the removal is a part of exercise initiated to bring in discipline in the set up ahead of the civic polls.

Tanavade on Wednesday had told reporters in Margao city that the party will address to all the rebellion within its fold in two-three days.

The elections for eleven municipal councils and the CCP is scheduled to be held this month.
