Old Goa: In a major obstacle to minister Michael Lobo’s plans to set up garbage treatment plant at Banguinim, local BJP MLA Pandurang Madkaikar has opposed setting up of the facility at the proposed site.
Participating in the public meeting held under banner of Pornem Goemcho Nagrik Manch (PGNM), Madkaikar said some of his political rivals are trying to derive mileage from the entire issue.
Madkaikar who is one of the senior BJP MLA said that since many years, he has been opposing the setting up of the plant at Bainguinim. “This project was about to be scrapped and we even went to the Court for the same. But somehow, now, someone wants to revive it,” he said.
The MLA said that when he was opposing the project initially, only few people were with him.
Madkaikar spearheading the protest against the plant might create obstacle for Lobo’s plans to get up the facility at this place.
